Berger Bullets Twist Rate Recommendations by Eric Stecker & Bryan Litz

At Berger Bullets, enhancing the rifle shooting experience is our primary objective and founding ideal.  Keeping our eyes constantly on this prize impacts every aspect of our operation.  Our goal is to establish the most accurate and up-to-date information possible, so trajectory predictions while using Berger Bullets are the most precise performance estimates available.  This data will be constantly reviewed and refined annually to maintain the accuracy of this information. Recently, we announced an update to our ballistic coefficient (BC), reference dimensions and twist rate recommendations data.  The update to the BC and reference dimensions data is the result of years of testing all the [...]

2015 F-Class National Championships

High end of the 1000 yard line at Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix, AZ. We have put another F-Class Nationals in the books. For the first time, the NRA combined the Mid-Range and Long Range Nationals into the same week. The matches were held at Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix, AZ, and hosted by the Desert Sharpshooters Rifle Club. Running two nationals back to back was a new experience for us, but we were excited for the opportunity. After the storms. Phoenix weather forecasts are usually pretty boring, but we had some variety this year. Just a few days [...]

Update of Berger Bullets’ Performance Data

Berger Bullets has always been a leader in evolving the information provided to shooters, helping them make the most educated decisions regarding their bullet choice.  Once again, we are pioneering new advances in ballistic performance data. Twist Rate Advancements First, we made new advancements in the area of bullet stability and twist rates.  Modern long range bullets have benefits that cannot be fully realized with a single digit twist rate number, such as 1:12”.  There is a big gray area of marginal stability in which bullets can fly with good accuracy, but a depressed BC.  Recognizing this reality, Berger is now listing a new optimal twist rate. [...]

Out and About: 2015 NRA World Shooting Championship

Last week, Ryan Neal of ABM Ammo and I had the opportunity to take part in the 2015 NRA World Shooting Championships, where more than 200 professional and amateur shooters battled it out to gain the title of the World Shooting Champion. The Championship consisted of 12 stages that covered a wide range of disciplines, such as Cowboy Action, Bianchi Cup Mover, Wobble Clays, USPSA as well as some precision long range. Berger and ABM Ammo were proud to partner with the NRA, Magpul and the Peacemaker National Training Center in Gerrardstown, West Virginia to sponsor two of the match stages. At the Designated Marksman [...]

7mm 195gr EOL Elite Hunter Now Available!

We are thrilled to announce that our recent tests were successful, and our new 7mm 195gr EOL Elite Hunter is now available! This bullet was inspired by Bob Beck, host of Extreme Outer Limits. Bob is building some exciting rifles with the capability of shooting these extremely aggressive bullets. Bryan Litz accepted the challenge of designing this bullet to not only have the highest ballistic performance of any 7mm bullet but also to overcome the difficulties in shooting heavier than standard weights. Bryan’s Hybrid nose design for these bullets is purpose built to exceed all others in BC and be easy to tune in many [...]

7mm 195gr EOL Elite Hunter Testing

We are excited to announce that the new Berger 7mm 195gr Match Grade Extreme Outer Limits (EOL) Elite Hunter is now in the public testing stage. This bullet was inspired by Bob Beck, host of EOL, and designed by Bryan Litz. Bob and EOL are building rifles that are capable of shooting extremely aggressive bullets, so Bryan and Berger Bullets have risen to the challenge of producing such a bullet. The 195gr EOL bullet has the highest ballistic performance of any 7mm bullet currently in existence, and is truly the first of its kind for a number of reasons. The first thing to note about [...]

The State of the Art in Rifle Bullet Stability

Overview The modern rifle is named for the spiral grooves cut in the barrel which impart a spin to the bullet. Spinning imparts gyroscopic stability, which is what keeps the bullet flying point forward. Longer bullets need to spin faster than shorter bullets to achieve stability. For many years, the relative proportions of bullets haven’t changed much, and so the twist rate of riflings has sort of stagnated around standard values. However in recent times, technology is advancing to the point where higher performance (longer) bullets can be made with greater precision, and so the thoughtful consideration of twist rate and stability is becoming important. [...]

ABM Ammo & Berger Bullets Sponsor NRA World Shooting Championship!

Update: ABM Ammo has become Berger Ammunition. For more info, click here. ABM Ammo & Berger Bullets are proud to announce that we will be sponsoring the NRA World Shooting Championship in 2015.
