2016 K&M Precision Rifle Competition

The 2016 K&M Precision Rifle Competition was held on May 27 - 29 in Finger, TN at the K&M Precision Rifle Training Shooting Complex. I had never been to K&M but knew I could expect excellence from the owner Shannon Kay. What makes K&M unique is it was purpose built for precision rifle training and competitive events from the ground up. The current range consists of more than 80 acres with a very recent acquisition of an additional 112 adjacent acres. On Friday, the range offered shooters an open range day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Steel targets were set out every 100 [...]

2016 NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits

It's that time of the year again! The NRA is hosting its Annual Meetings and Exhibits, where over 750 exhibitors come out to meet with fellow firearms enthusiasts. This year's NRA Show takes place May 20-22 in Louisville, KY and Berger Bullets will be there at booth 5048. This show is an exciting one for us, because we will have a bigger booth this year to share with our ammunition company, ABM Ammo. Berger Bullets is teaming up with ABM Ammo to do a giveaway contest at the NRA Show. Shooters that come by our booth can provide their email address or drop one of [...]

Applied Ballistics Spring Seminar

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHsqL80KpcE The next Applied Ballistics Seminar will be held May 23-24 at the Dallas/Addison Marriott in Dallas, TX. This two day seminar will cover practical elements of external ballistics. Information will be presented in a general way which applies equally to all long range shooting disciplines (hunting, target, tactical). Topics will be introduced from an academic first principles perspective. Once the scientific basis for the material is established, the ideas are further demonstrated with examples from instrumented live fire. They explain the science, and then present examples of the principles in action. The goal is that you’ll leave with an understanding of the subject [...]

2016 Cactus Classic

The Cactus Classic took place on March 19-20, 2016 at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix, AZ. This year's match had a great turnout with 138 total shooters, 3 of which were junior shooters. The Cactus had a full 5 days of practice, the Monday through Friday before the match. During this week we got to see a lot of familiar faces from last year as well as many new faces. For the most part, the days were full of great weather with normal Ben Avery conditions, meaning a bit of wind here and there. Thursday and Friday both had good conditions in comparison [...]

2016 Southwest Nationals

Welcome to the Southwest Nationals! Like most big matches, the 2016 Southwest Nationals disappeared in a whirlwind after months of preparation by both shooters and sponsors. We had our biggest turnout yet this year, with over 400 competitors! Along with shooters from all over the United States, we were proud to welcome our friends from Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Thanks to our generous sponsors, we gave away over $100,000 in donated prizes and award money. 1000 yard firing line. Click here to see the 2016 Southwest Nationals Sponsors. 2015 F-Class National Championships

High end of the 1000 yard line at Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix, AZ. We have put another F-Class Nationals in the books. For the first time, the NRA combined the Mid-Range and Long Range Nationals into the same week. The matches were held at Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix, AZ, and hosted by the Desert Sharpshooters Rifle Club. Running two nationals back to back was a new experience for us, but we were excited for the opportunity. After the storms. Phoenix weather forecasts are usually pretty boring, but we had some variety this year. Just a few days [...]

Out and About: 2015 NRA World Shooting Championship

Last week, Ryan Neal of ABM Ammo and I had the opportunity to take part in the 2015 NRA World Shooting Championships, where more than 200 professional and amateur shooters battled it out to gain the title of the World Shooting Champion. The Championship consisted of 12 stages that covered a wide range of disciplines, such as Cowboy Action, Bianchi Cup Mover, Wobble Clays, USPSA as well as some precision long range. Berger and ABM Ammo were proud to partner with the NRA, Magpul and the Peacemaker National Training Center in Gerrardstown, West Virginia to sponsor two of the match stages. At the Designated Marksman [...]

2014 F-Class National Championships

By Michelle Gallagher Welcome to Phoenix! It's amazing how so many months of preparation can disappear in what feels like the blink of an eye. But that's exactly what happened at the 2014 F-Class Nationals in Phoenix, AZ, when months of load testing, training and wind reading skills were put to the test during an unseasonably warm week in October. We were excited to see 175 shooters come from around the US and Canada, and even one all the way from Australia! Shooters and hospitality tents along the 1000 yd line. The week started with a Long Range Regional on the [...]

Firecracker 4800

By Michelle Gallagher Nancy Tompkins shooting. Smallbore shooters use personal windmills (top right corner) to help determine wind speed and direction. *Photo courtesy of Katelyn Hensley. My first rifle was a .22 Chipmunk when I was 7 years old. My mom believed that smallbore is the best way to learn the basic techniques of shooting – sight alignment, trigger control, natural point of aim, etc. I think she’s right. So my sister and I shot smallbore for years before we ever picked up high power rifles. Fast forward to 2014. I’m a high power shooter through and through, and haven’t shot a .22 [...]

NRA Ireland 2014 Nationals

Midlands range - 1000 yd line A few weeks ago, I traveled to Tullamore, Ireland for the NRAI 2014 Nationals. I’ve shot at the Midlands National Shooting Centre of Ireland several times now, and it has quickly become one of my favorite places to train. I believe the best way to improve your shooting skills is to challenge yourself, and the Midlands range is definitely a challenge. Some days, just hitting the paper at 1000 yards is an accomplishment, and a shot in the black is cause for celebration. Combine those challenging conditions with the beautiful scenery, tough competition and some of the [...]
